Butler Group Secure Solutions Tactical Communications MPX Fusion

MPX Fusion

Digital Barriers offers the multi-function MPX real-time sensor processing and fusion platform to overcome the challenges of operating in hostile operational and environmental conditions. It features a range of optimised, power efficient imaging techniques that directly enhance the amount of information visible, or by providing a stable artefact free image.

MPX fusion is a processing function designed to enhance the effectiveness and usability of dual waveband sensor heads. The combination of visible-band and thermal imagery provides operators with greater visual information in different conditions and at different times of the day. However, there are instances when an operator is forced to swop between the two feeds. In such instances, the operational advantages gained from access to complementary visual information can be undermined as the operator is overwhelmed by multiple monitors.

The fusion processing overcomes this issue by intelligently combining the two different image modalities in a single view. This provides high levels of spatial detail and colour information from the visible-band sensor and vital thermal signature information from the thermal sensor. Digital Barriers is recognised as a world-leader in image fusion technology – producing the only real-time fusion system that is zoom-enabled. This level of capability extends the use of image fusion to long-range imaging scenarios and is unique to Digital Barriers.

MPX is an extremely powerful and adaptable platform that offers the option to implement a range of processing functions in software or hardware – depending on the complexity of the application, speed of deployment and power considerations. It can be used to enable in-line processing enhancements, as part of an enhancement to a current in-service system, or as part of an integrated enhancement embedded within the sensor itself. MPX algorithms have been optimised as a result of thorough testing and trials across land, sea and air domains.
